The ODROID M1S is an improved iteration of the ODROID M1: the upgrade is based on valuable input from both B2C and B2B clients. Hardkernel has introduced the cost-effective ODROID M1S board, featuring an increased number of GPIO ports (40 + 14 Pins), a more streamlined form factor, and reduced power consumption. Notably, the M1S is 20% slimmer than its predecessor, the ODROID M1, and boasts approximately 20% lower power consumption. The inclusion of an extra 14 GPIO pins and an embedded 64GB eMMC chip further enhances its capabilities.

GPIO pin headers are NOT included.

The ODROID M1S is bundled with the official Hardkernel case, a heatsink, and a Type-C power adapter (EU version in this release). Hardkernel commits to ensuring a continued supply of the product until at least 2036.

RockChip RK3566 SoC 1.8GHz Quad-Core Processor

The ODROID M1S is powered by the RK3566 System-on-Chip (SOC), succeeding the original M1. This successor maintains compatibility with a wide array of existing software while incorporating improved hardware specifications. Boasting a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 CPU operating at 1.8GHz, the M1S strikes a balance between energy efficiency and operational prowess. The model offered comes with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, addressing diverse computing needs without compromising cost-effectiveness.

Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU)

Adapting to the industry's shift towards machine learning, the M1S integrates a Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 0.8 TOPS, providing users with enhanced capabilities for machine learning applications.

Display Connectivity

Equipped with a 4-lane MIPI-DSI port, the M1S facilitates direct connectivity to LCD panels. The optional ODROID-Vu8S kit, featuring an 8-inch, 800×1280 wide-viewing-angle LCD and capacitive multi-touch screen, presents an ideal solution for Human-Machine Interface (HMI) development, supporting both Android and Linux operating systems.

On-board Storage Solutions

Breaking new ground in the ODROID series, the M1S incorporates a default eMMC chip directly soldered to the PCB, offering 64GB of storage capacity. With a speed of approximately 180MiB/s, the eMMC surpasses typical microSD cards by 3 to 5 times, ensuring efficient data access for embedded systems.

Expansion Capabilities

To accommodate expanded storage needs, the M1S features an on-board M.2 NVMe slot supporting industry-standard 2280 form factor NVMe SSDs. While the transfer speed is reduced compared to its predecessor, reaching ~400 MiB/s, it remains sufficient for various high-end embedded systems.

Please note that only PCIe interface (M-Key) NVMe SSDs are supported, and M.2 SATA storage devices are incompatible.

Power Efficiency

Demonstrating commendable power efficiency, the M1S exhibits a peak consumption of around 3.7 Watts during booting, decreasing to 1.5 Watts in the desktop GUI idle state with Ethernet and HDMI monitor connected. For headless systems, idle power consumption further drops to nearly 1.0 Watt. Disconnecting the Ethernet cable results in an additional power drop to 0.7 Watt.
